Is playing the acoustic guitar the same thing as playing an electric guitar?

I have never played guitar, but would like to learn. What is the difference between these two other than the sound? Is playing them different? Thank you.

Yes and no…

The acoustic guitar is much harder to play and unless you are seriously commited and dedicated to learning guitar I suggest learning on an electric guitar because they are easier to play. If you start out on an acoustic guitar it will be much more difficult to learn to play because you will not be comfortable when you play.

Acoustic guitars and electric guitars are fundamentally the same. They are the same notes and everything except that the acoustic guitar is much bigger and bulkier and louder (when unplugged) than an electric guitar.

My advice?

If you want to learn to play the guitar, start with an electric guitar.

There are A LOT of good starter packs on www.Musiciansfriend.com. You could probably buy one at your local Guitar Center too if you don’t want to bother with shipping and stuff.

is bass easy to learn if you already know how to play guitar?

i am just learning to play the guitar. me and my friends want to start a band. we already have 2 guitarists, so is bass similar to guitar learning wise. (yes, i know bass is way different than guitar) oh, and what price is a good one for beginners?

Yes, bass is pretty easy if you know guitar, you don’t play chords, although you can, but generally you don’t, and the strings are farther apart and thicker, so you have more room. Check a pawn shop for something around $100-150.

How can i learn how to play guitar solos better?
Filed under: learn to play guitar

i have trouble learn guitar solos on my guitar. i have been playing for 3 years but i still have trouble.

Are you alternate picking? This is a major flaw of many inexperienced guitar players. You can play twice as fast with alternate picking. Are you holding your pick at an angle? This helps the pick to glide on the picked string easier so you play faster. Weather you make the angle toward the fretboard or toward the bridge is not important.

Here’s a few things you need to look up on youtube or Google:
Sweep/economy picking, pinch and natural harmonics, tapping, arpeggios, major minor diminished whole tone pentatonic and diatonic scales. Focus on major and minor but don’t neglect the others.

I play rythem guitar riffs for thrash metal. What type of guitar should I get a les paul or a stratocaster?

I have owned an Excel stratocaster for about 5 years now and it is starting to get old so I want a new guitar. It is a training guitar so it is pretty basic. I am now quite experienced in playing thrash metal like riffs from metallica and slayer. Should I buy a Les Paul or another (better) Stratocaster?

(only people who play thrash metal please)

Dont get a strat, if your into thrash metal buy a les paul, James Hetfield from metallica uses a les paul. They are highly regarded for metal capability, buuuut. i suggest looking for different brands such as ibanez and Jackson (what i use), dont go for the generic guitars. Its f-ing boring.

3 Guitar Questions! What is a Guitar Capo used for? How do you know when to use it in a song?

Hi! I actually have 3 Questions:
What is the guitar capo used for?
When do you know when to use it in a song?
Do Electric Guitars Use Capos?
I’ve never seen a Electric guitar with a capo.

A capo is used to change (raise) the key of your open chords.

A capo is most commonly used by guitar players that aren’t good at barre chords, or for guitar riffs that require open strings in a key other than where open strings are available.
(In a barre chord you use your fore-finger as a capo)

A capo can be used on an electric as well. Even though it’s electric, it’s still a guitar (same rules). Most famous people you see performing with electric guitars know barre chords and don’t need a capo.

Tips on becoming a better blues guitar player?

Ive played guitar for now for almost 3 years. I’ve learnt all sorts of styles, etc. but i really want to become a better blues player. Does anyone have any tips? and will it help if I know some theory? Is it better to finger pick instead of using a plectrum?

To make is short and sweet, listen to your fave blues player and steal some licks and try to finger out the how and why of using them. Blues scales are usually based on minor and pentatonic scales.

But there is more to this otherwise, a person will get sick hearing the same 5 notes over and over and over.

Check out the Blues section in this link. you will sind some very interesting stuff with samples from major blues player as well….enjoy
